Kharkhorin city, Orkhon Valley and Gobi are among the main attractions that one must see when they visit Mongolia. Traveling to these sites allows you to see the changing landscapes and habitats, from steppe to Gobi, or from forest to steppe. Aside from the landscapes, you will visit many sites famous of its historical and archeological importance.

Activity : We will travel approximately 200км on dirt road and 350 км on paved road. Activities such as trekking, horse riding or camel riding, sightseeing, and cultural visits are included.

Trip detail

Day 1: An introductory city tour through Ulaanbaatar, where we will visit sites such as Gandan-tegchilen monastery, National Museum of Mongolia where you will learn about the history of Mongolia.

Day 2: Drive to Gobi. We will see many beautiful scenes on our way. We will arrive at Baga gazriin chuluu in the afternoon. Baga gazriin chuluu is a pile of stone massifs located in the middle of the steppe. It is about 15km long and 10 km wide. Overnight in ger camp.(B+L+D)

Day 3: It is a long drive, we continue our drive to Bayanzag. Bayanzag is a valley famous for its archeological finds. An American Expedition team, lead by Roy Chapman Andrews, found the first dinosaur eggs as well as other fossils and bones which are exhibited in the Natural History Museum of USA.  This place is popular with the name “Flaming Cliffs” because the hills in Bayanzag look like they are burning when the sun sets.

Day 4: Today we will drive to Khongor sand dune while passing by Vulture’s gorge. Vulture’s gorge is a narrow canyon with thick ice almost all year round in its depths. It is home to many rare mammals, birds and plants. Overnight in tent

Day 5: We will visit a camel herder family, discover their daily life and ride a camel through the Khongor sand dunes. Khongor is an 800 m high white sand dune surrounded by lush green grass and blue mountains. In evening, we will sit out under the night sky and watch the stars.

Day 6: Drive to Ongi monastery. Formerly one of the largest monasteries in Mongolia, it was founded in 1660 and consisted of two temples complexes on the North and South of the Ongi Gol river. The older southern complex consisted of various administrative buildings as well as 11 temples. The northern complex, built in the 18th century, consisted of 17 temples - among them one of the largest temples in all of Mongolia. The grounds housed also 4 Buddhist universities.

Day 7: Continue to Khujirt.Enjoy wild nature

Day 8: Today we will visit Orkhon river valley and Orkhon waterfall. Orkhon Valley is a cultural region which contains many archeological finds such as deer stones, man stones, burial sites, and ancient city ruins dating back to the 6th century. Orkhon waterfall, also called Ulaan Tsutgalan, was formed by a combination of volcanic eruptions and earthquakes about 20,000 years ago.

Day 9: Drive to Tuvkhun monastery and spend the afternoon walking in the area. Tuvkhun monastery was established in 1634 by Undur gegeen Zanabazar, the leader of Buddhism. He lived, worked and meditated for over 30 years in this monastery. It was here where he created the Soyombo which became the symbol of freedom and independence in Mongolia.

Day 10: Drive to Kharkhorin and visit Erdenezuu monastery. Erdenezuu monastery, built on top of the ruins of Kharkhorin city, was the first and biggest Buddhist temple built in Mongolia. Although ruined during the Communist period, it operates as a museum today.

Day 11: Drive to Ugii Lake via Khushuu Tsaidam. Khushuu Tsaidam is a Turkic monument of famous general Kultegin (684-731) and his brother Bilge Khan (683-734). The monument contains inscriptions describing and praising these two brothers. Ugii Lake is a wonderful place for bird watching and fishing. It is also a haven for photographers during sunrise and sunset.

Day 12: We will visit Khustai Nuruu national park, famous for its Przewalskii’s wild horse reintroduction program started in early 1990s. There are about 250 wild horses now, as well as 46 species of mammals including Red deer, Wild bear, Eurasian lynx, and 148 species of birds such as Demoiselle crane, Cinereous vulture and Black stork.

Day 13: Arrive in Ulaanbaatar. In the evening, we will see a Mongolian cultural concert with contortion artists, throat singers, national long songs and dances. Overnight at hotel .(B)

  • Tourist Ger Camps: The camp is made up of several Gers, furnished with 2-3 beds, a stove and other traditional furniture, and has all modern facilities, including washing blocks with western style toilets and shower rooms, laundry places, restaurant and shopping facilities. As there is no heating system in the Gers, the stoves are used for heating.

  • Meals: A group made up of more than three people will be provided with a professional chef who will be serving a wide variety of Asian, European and Mongolian dishes throughout the trip. You will be served breakfast, lunch accompanied with salad and snack, and hot meal for dinner carefully prepared to suitable the weather and condition in the trip field.

  • Transportation: We choose the transportation from 4×4 Russian vehicles, 4×4 Japanese or Korean vehicles and modern buses. The most suitable transportation for countryside travels is, in most cases, Russian vans. Baggage is sometimes carried on horse, camel and yak carts in relevance to the trip type.
